We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian botanical studies emerged during the nineteenth century alongside an increased interest in natural history, horticulture, and meticulous observational science. Artists used fine brushwork in watercolour or gouache to capture accurate physical descriptions of plant species, combining aesthetic composition with botanical precision.

Nineteenth-century artists typically employed opaque water-based pigments known as gouache, watercolours, and natural gum binders applied to paper or card. Toned papers, such as mid-grey or dark brown, were often selected to provide background contrast and accentuate white and light-coloured floral highlights.

Authentic period works feature physical signs of age, such as natural paper discolouration, foxing, and fine surface matte textures characteristic of antique pigments. Period-appropriate signatures, monograms, dates, and historical framing labels offer additional structural confirmation.

A small botanical painting can be styled individually in a compact space or grouped alongside other natural history illustrations in a gallery wall layout. Pairing the piece with neutral matting and dark wood or gilded frames enhances traditional architecture as well as contemporary interiors.

Preserve watercolour and gouache works by keeping them away from direct sunlight and high-humidity environments to prevent fading and mould growth. Frame the artwork using UV-filtering glass and acid-free archival matting to prevent direct contact between the paper surface and the glass cover.
