Description

An impressive pair of French bronze and bronze gilt rococo style pierced antique chenets or fire dogs with deep scrolling acanthus leaf design and acanthus flowers.

The chenets have been cleaned and lacquered to prevent tarnishing.

The reverse of the mount is stamped with the makers name - Casier

Height - 39 cm (15 ½ inches)

Width - 33 cm (13 inches)

Depth - 18 cm (7 inches)

Circa - 1860

Chenets, also known as fire dogs or andirons, are decorative metal supports positioned at the front of a hearth. Rococo style chenets emerged in 18th-century France, characterized by organic flowing curves, asymmetric rocaille motifs, and acanthus leaf ornamentation.
