An attractive Chinese hardwood (similar to Rosewood), plant or jardiničre stand, of circular form, the top inset with a pale pink and cream veined marble panel within a moulded hardwood rim.
The apron finely pierced and carved with stylised foliate and lotus-inspired motifs, supported on four slender cabriole legs united by a shaped crossed stretcher for stability.
The stand displays the restrained elegance typical of late Qing period domestic furniture and Chinese export pieces made for the Western market in the late Victorian era. Such stands were traditionally used to display porcelain vases, jardiničres or scholarly objects.
Materials: Carved hardwood (possibly hongmu type), marble inset top.
Condition: In overall sound condition commensurate with age. The marble top shows a visible age-related crack. Please study the photograph.
