A late 19th-century walnut framed open armchair in the William & Mary style, featuring a tall, upright upholstered back and covered in a deep blue velvet. The seat and back are finished with brass nailhead trim, giving a crisp and period-inspired look.
The chair displays well-shaped scroll arms on turned supports, above a boldly executed baluster-turned stretcher arrangement typical of the 17th-century revival style. Standing on block and turned legs, the walnut frame has a warm, mellow colour with attractive figuring to the arms.
A striking, comfortable fauteuil with excellent presence — ideal as a library, fireside or statement hall chair.
