Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grandmother clocks are scaled-down versions of traditional longcase grandfather clocks, typically standing under six feet tall with narrower proportions. Popularised in the early 20th century, they feature mechanical weight-driven or spring-driven movements and chiming mechanisms housed within a compact wooden cabinet.

Cabinetry for these clocks is traditionally constructed from solid oak or figured oak veneers, displaying natural medullary rays. The dials combine etched brass plates, silvered chapter rings, cast corner spandrels, and glass viewing panels.

Authentic examples feature mechanical brass clockwork movements, winding arbors on the dial face, pendulum assemblies, and physical chime rods or gongs. Look for traditional joinery on the oak case, authentic metalwork, and Latin inscriptions such as Tempus Fugit on the dial arch.

Position the clock as an architectural focal point in a hallway, stair landing, or living room alcove to contrast clean contemporary lines with rich wood grain. Pair the dark oak tones with neutral wall shades, polished brass accents, and modern artwork.

Position the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture sources to prevent the oak casing from warping. Dust the exterior regularly with a soft cloth, apply beeswax along the wood grain annually, and arrange professional servicing for the mechanical movement every five to seven years.
