Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique paint sample advertising display is a commercial point-of-sale fixture created for retail shops during the early 20th century. These units allowed merchants to demonstrate real colour finishes and enamel options to customers purchasing paints for bicycles, automobiles, or household items.

Early retail displays were typically constructed using solid timber frames, painted softwoods, and printed paper or cardboard signage. The sample elements often utilised metal tubes, leatherette coverings, or lacquered wood strips to display distinct paint colours and sheens.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate typography, hand-applied or lithographed brand names, and traditional joinery such as rebated corners or small brass fastenings. Genuine age exhibits subtle surface crazing, light wear along edges, and original patinated finishes.

A vintage commercial display makes a striking statement when placed on a sideboard top, bookshelf, or home office desk. It functions as a sculptural piece of history, pairing well with dark wood furniture, industrial metalwork, or curated collections of vintage ephemera.

Maintain the finish by dusting gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Avoid applying liquid cleaners, waxes, or solvents, which can dissolve historical paint samples or degrade paper graphics. Keep the item out of direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and material warping.
