Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century Britain during the reign of King George III, a bedside commode was a functional piece of bedroom furniture designed to house a chamber pot discreetly inside a wooden cabinet while offering a tray-top surface for modern conveniences.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, featuring dovetail drawer joints, brass handles, and gallery tops with hand-cut carrying handles to allow movement between rooms.

Authentic 18th-century pieces feature hand-sawn timber marks, original brass hardware showing natural oxidisation, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and natural wear around the gallery edges and feet consistent with centuries of use.

A Georgian commode functions as an elegant nightstand beside a modern upholstered bed or as an occasional side table in a living room, providing enclosed storage alongside classic architectural proportions.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and severe humidity fluctuations to prevent cracking.
