Antique Leather Desk Tidy / Organiser In The Form Of A Set Of Books

This unusual and very charming desk tidy dates to 1890-1910. Six faux books sit on a red leather book trough. As can be seen in the photos, the books are labelled ‘Matches, Stamps, Elastic Bands, Rubber, Sundries, and Pins & Clips’. The red leather books slide open as would a match box. There are losses to the gilt page edging to one of the books, but this is on the bottom edge of the book (presumably worn through by years of pushing this book open) and can not be seen when the books are in the trough. The book trough measures 15.5 cm wide, 10.5 cm deep, and 6.5 cm high. The height when the books are in place is 11cm. Each book measures 7.8 cm high, 5.8 cm wide, and 2.3 cm in thickness.
