Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian open armchairs feature padded seats and button-backed upholstery combined with exposed timber arm supports and legs. Originating in the nineteenth century, these pieces were designed for comfortable lounging while maintaining an open visual profile.

These armchairs typically feature solid hardwood frames such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, stuffed with natural horsehair and jute webbing. The upholstery incorporates hand-tied coil springs and deeply buttoned fabric detailing.

Authentic period armchairs feature hand-turned wood supports, original brass castors, and hand-stitched upholstery understructures. Examining the underside reveals traditional webbing, jute hessian, and hand-tacked fastenings rather than modern staples or synthetic foam.

Position the armchair as an accent piece alongside contemporary neutral furniture to create a contrast of textures and historical eras. Pairing structured buttoned upholstery with a sleek modern floor lamp grounds the period silhouette within a contemporary space.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment to remove dust from the button tufting. Treat timber legs and arm supports with natural beeswax polish annually, and position the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber drying.
