Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware originated in the Satsuma province of Japan during the late sixteenth century, expanding significantly during the Meiji period (18681912) for export to Western markets. It is characterised by crackle-glazed earthenware decorated with detailed polychrome enamels and heavy gold gilding.

These lamps feature a finely decorated earthenware ceramic body with lead-free glazes, gold leaf or painted gilding, and raised moriage enamel decoration. Examples from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are typically fitted with cast brass or bronze bases and topped with fabric shades.

Authentic Satsuma ceramics feature a fine, crackled ivory glaze, detailed figurative hand-painting, and tactile raised enamel work. The base or lower perimeter may display artist signatures, seals, or the circular Shimazu family crest.

A Satsuma lamp serves as a focal point on a dark wood sideboard, side table, or hallway console. Pairing it with neutral textiles and simple furniture allows the intricate pattern work and gilded details to stand out.

Dust the ceramic body gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to avoid wearing down the delicate gilding. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, and ensure all electrical components are periodically inspected by a qualified electrician.
