Fine 19th-century French Louis XV Writing / Side Table By Durand With Marquetry & Ormolu

A superb 19th-century French ormolu-mounted writing table by the esteemed Parisian ébéniste Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand, celebrated for his luxurious interpretations of 18th-century French design. Crafted in a refined blend of amaranth, kingwood and bois satiné, the table features exquisite floral marquetry inlay and finely cast gilt-bronze mounts throughout - all hallmarks of Durand’s celebrated workshop.
 
The shaped top conceals a brushing slide fitted with a tooled leather writing surface, flanked by two discreet side drawers. The piece stands on graceful cabriole legs, each adorned with delicate gilt-bronze mounts, and retains its original rich polish and patina.
 
This elegant writing table exemplifies the sophistication and finesse of Parisian cabinetmaking in the late 19th century, and was previously sold at Christie’s, New York, as part of “A Golden Age: An Important Collection of 19th Century Furniture & Decorative Art”, October 2018, Lot 18.
