Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French Regence style represents a transitional period between the grand Baroque of Louis XIV and the lighter Rococo of Louis XV in the early 18th century. It is characterised by graceful curves, symmetrical shell carvings, acanthus motifs, and cabriole legs.

Frames were typically carved by hand from solid hardwoods such as beech or walnut before being prepared with gesso and water-gilded with real gold leaf. Original upholstery incorporated natural materials like horsehair, burlap, and silk or velvet fabrics.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved joinery, pegged construction, and signs of age such as natural wear to the gilding showing red or grey clay bole beneath. The underside of the frame often reveals hand-sawn timber marks and historic upholstery tack holes.

Position the piece as an accent along a focal wall, within a bay window, or at the foot of a bed. Pairing contrasting textured fabrics with minimalist lighting and modern artwork creates a balanced schemes.

Dust giltwood frames gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical polish which can dissolve historical gesso. Vacuum upholstery lightly with a soft brush attachment and keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiator heat sources.
