Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency overmantel mirror, also known as a chimney glass, is a wide architectural wall mirror produced during the early 19th century, designed to sit directly above a fireplace mantelpiece. These mirrors often incorporate tripartite glass panels, neoclassical low-relief friezes, and architectural column flanking.

Mirrors from this period were typically built from softwood frames covered with gesso and composition ornament, which was then painted or gilded. The mirror plates were created using hand-blown mercury glass, often divided into three panels to reduce production costs.

Authentic Regency pieces feature early silvering or mercury glass with grey spotting, subtle distortions, and hand-cut bevels or timber backboards. Construction traits include hand-carved joinery, original painted or oil-gilded surfaces, and classical motifs such as lion chariots, cornucopias, and fluted pilasters.

Position the mirror centrally above a living room fireplace or a hallway console table to anchor the space. Pair the piece with neutral wall paintwork and minimalist modern furniture to allow the architectural relief details and classical proportions to serve as the main visual anchor.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or chemical sprays that can lift historic paint and gesso. Clean the glass carefully using a damp microfibre cloth, applying water directly to the cloth rather than the mirror surface to protect the timber backing and silvering.
