Antique Georgian Boxed Desk Set with 10 Intaglio Coloured-Glass Seals & Handle – Early 1800s
A rare Georgian boxed desk seal set, dating from the early 19th century (circa 1800–1820).
The set includes ten hand-engraved intaglio seals in richly coloured glass, housed in their original fitted velvet- and silk-lined wooden case, together with a turned handle made of coloured glass. The handle was designed for use with the interchangeable seal matrices.
Each seal bears fine engraved designs, classical motifs, and Latin inscriptions, including “YACERUNT” — meaning “they lie” or “they have rested.” Such seals were traditionally used to create wax impressions for authenticating correspondence and documents.
