Rare Antique English Opaline Blue Glass Lined Biscuit Box in Silver Plate C.1890

Description

A fabulous and most unusual biscuit box made from English silverplate and dating to the late Victorian period, around 1890.

The box is beautifully pierced or reticulated with fine engraving and standing on an integral stand which in turn stands on three exquisitely decorated feet.

The hinged lid opens to reveal the original powder blue Opaline glass liner in perfect condition with a ground pontil on the underside, showing it is hand blown and made in the late nineteenth century. The interior of the lid is where the makers marks are to be found W W H S and EP under a crown within a shield; these marks are for he Sheffield silversmith, W.W. HARRISON and the EP for Electro Plate.

A splendid grand example in excellent condition measuring 7 1/2" in height and the integral tray measuring 7" in diameter.
