Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II style mirrors from the mid-eighteenth century are known for their architectural symmetry, combining dark polished woods like mahogany or walnut with selective gilded highlights, known as parcel gilding. Common architectural motifs include broken pediments, central carved finials, side floral swags, and scrollwork.

These mirrors were constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut for the primary frame structure. Decorative elements were carved from lime wood or moulded composition, applied to the main frame, and finished with gold leaf gilding alongside mirrored plate glass.

Authentic period frames show distinct signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as hand-sawn timber backboards, square cut nails, and irregularities in the carving. The gilding typically displays natural wear where the underlying clay bolus shows through the gold leaf layer.

A parcel gilt mirror provides a striking focal point when positioned above a minimalist console table, a fireplace mantel, or a dining room sideboard. The contrast between dark timber, gold gilding, and modern architectural lines creates visual balance in contemporary spaces.

Dust the wood and gilt frame gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaning products that could strip the delicate gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass by applying glass cleaner directly to a cloth rather than spraying the frame.
