Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sancai, meaning three colours, is a ceramic decoration technique originating in China during the Tang Dynasty (618907 AD). The style frequently featured court attendants, musicians, dancers, and horses, created primarily as grave goods (mingqi) to serve in the afterlife.

Sancai pottery is crafted from white or reddish earthenware clay moulded into form and fired twice. Lead-based glazes containing copper oxide for green and iron oxide for amber or brown are applied, which melt and run during firing to create characteristic streaked patterns.

Authentic Tang period Sancai ceramics typically exhibit fine glaze crazing, unglazed clay bases showing natural aging, and specific chemical glaze signatures. Thermoluminescence (TL) testing is the standard scientific method used to verify the age of earthenware items.

Position a grouped set along a contemporary sideboard or within a lighted display cabinet to create visual depth. Pairing low-fired earthenware with minimalist contemporary materials such as dark wood or brass provides balanced contrast.

Clean gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove dust from delicate areas and cold-painted details. Avoid immersion in water or the use of chemical solvents, as porous low-fired ceramic bodies and lead glazes can absorb moisture or sustain surface damage.
