A very decorative pair of French bellows with original red leather and brass stud work. These fireside bellows are decorated to the front with a delightful Chinoiserie scene of musicians playing in a traditional garden landscape. The reverse has a simple gold line on a black ground. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Chinoiserie fireplace bellows are traditional hearth tools created with East Asian-inspired decorative motifs, often featuring pagodas, landscapes, and figures painted in gold onto lacquered wooden panels.

Traditional bellows construction relied on shaped timber boards, flexible leather edging fixed with brass studs or tacks, and a cast or turned brass nozzle to direct airflow into the fire.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-painted gilt decoration showing fine brushwork, age-appropriate patination on the metal components, and natural surface wear on the leather folds.

Antique bellows can be mounted beside a open hearth, displayed inside a fireplace alcove on a brass hook, or integrated into a wall-mounted collection of historic metalwork and tools.

Dust lacquered wood surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth, avoid liquid polish on gilt areas, and treat the leather trim periodically with a specialist wax or conditioner to prevent drying.
