William Lassel Toxteth Park 1780

Description

A fine quality flame mahogany eight day longcase clock by the eminent maker William Lassel of Toxteth Park, circa 1780.

Finely proportioned Liverpool style case with boxed swan-neck pediment hood with dentil moulding and fan inlay paterae, surmounted by brass finials.

Original green gilt decorated verre eglomisee glass feature panels.

Double turned and fluted columns to the hood, with fluted columns to the rear of the hood.

Long trunk door with shaped top, flanked by quarter turned fluted columns.

Fielded panel base with canted corners mounted on ogee bracket feet.

Arched japanned dial by "Wilson of Birmingham" with raised gold leaf decoration to the corners and revolving phases of the moon to the arch.

Sweep centre calendar with beautiful brass hand indicator

Fine quality 8 day movement, striking the hours on a single bell.

Finely fretted original blued steel hands.
