Edward Henry Eugene Fletcher (1857-1945)
He was the son of a Bengal Pilot & is a good example of the numerous meritorious but scantily recorded marine artists of the 19th century.
Fletcher was born at 27, The Grove, Hammersmith. He was educated at Christ''s Hospital & studied at the Chelsea Art School. He lived firstly at Blackheath and then Thames Ditton. He painted for a dealer by the name of Casteloni of Islington, who sold his works in America. Later he moved to Winchelsea, near Rye, and then to Tilhurst in Sussex, where he died.
While living n Lo
...ndon Fletcher produced a considerable number of Thames views, the best of which compare favourably to those of William Wyllie.
He also painted under the name John Hayes, and is often referred to incorrectly as ''Edwin'' Fletcher.
