Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Oil Lamp c.1900
A Meiji period Japanese bronze oil lamp in the Chinoiserie taste, dating to circa 1900. The lamp is cast in patinated bronze with pierced fretwork panels and applied gilt brass roundels depicting stylised dragons. It stands on a decorative tripod base with scroll feet and a key-pattern frieze.
Retains its original brass burner, stamped ''Lampe Dite Electrique A.W. Bruxelles'' and ''Lampe Sans Suintement A.W. Déposé''. The base has been drilled, presumably for electrical conversion at some point. There is a dent to the side of the font, and the original shade is not present.
Measures 16 x 16 x 44 (height) cm
Some age-related wear; drilled base; some dents to font and base, shade absent
