Antique Oil Painting by Jean Baptiste Isabey Famous French Artist 1767 to 1855 French Empire Isabey of Cherub Cupid Nymph Oil on Canvas a God or Goddess of Innocence with Valentine Love Cherubs of Greek Mythology

19th century
Description

A very important and recently discovered antique oil painting believed by the famous french artist painter called Jean Baptiste Isabey 1767 to 1855. Title is believed to be innocence seduced by love.

This beautiful and possibly very important antique oil painting on canvas in a rococo frame is clearly signed and dated by the artist Jean-Baptiste Isabey 1819.

The signature has been checked for authenticity and the brush strokes are certainly visible very similar and possibly by the famous French painter Jean Baptiste Isabey.

We have also discovered a miniature painting also by Jean baptiste Isabey of the garden of his house and it shows one of the statues in his oil painting. This therefore is further proof that it is very likely a true oil painting by Jean baptiste Isabey . The style of brush strokes is also the same as his oil painting of the garden shown in the romantic painting

Jean Baptiste was originally famed for his miniature portraits of the French royal family, then the revolutionary french leaders, Napoleon and also Wellington, as well as many other famous and important people from the 18th century and 19th century in and around Europe.

This particular oil painting is also rather unique and would have possibly been a reflection of Jean Baptiste Isabey state of mind at the time of looking as art as a thing of beauty.

French Empire painting, emerging in the early nineteenth century, is characterised by classical compositions, mythical subjects, and theatrical lighting influenced by Greco-Roman antiquity.

Artisans utilised oil pigments ground with linseed oil on stretched linen canvas, often mounted within hand-carved, timber frames decorated with gold leaf.

Authentic period works display characteristic craquelure across the paint surface, historic oxidation on the reverse of the canvas, period-appropriate stretcher bars, and hand-carved gilded framing.

A large allegorical painting serves as a key visual focal point when positioned above a mantlepiece or sideboard, offering a rich historical contrast to clean modern architecture.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, heating sources, and fluctuating humidity. Surface dust should be removed gently with a soft dry brush, while restoration requires a professional Conservator.
