Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch genre paintings depict scenes of everyday life, such as tavern gatherings, street musicians, and domestic interiors. During the 19th century, artists frequently drew inspiration from 17th-century Dutch Masters, capturing detailed figurative studies and rustic compositions.

Copper panels provided a rigid, non-porous surface that allowed artists to execute fine, precise brushwork with high visual detail. The metallic substrate prevents absorption of oil binders and resists warping over time.

Authentication involves examining the reverse of the copper sheet for age-appropriate oxidation, hand-hammered marks, or historic maker stamps. Microscopic inspection of the paint surface reveals characteristic craquelure and natural pigment aging.

Framed artwork can be integrated into gallery walls alongside modern prints or displayed on a library bookshelf to create visual contrast. The rich gilt tones of traditional frames complement neutral colour schemes and dark wood joinery.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry natural-bristle brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or solvents that can damage delicate varnish layers. Display the artwork away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources.
