Ritas Bazaar has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
All sides are filled with scenes of scholar-sages, attendants, dragons and auspicious animals among clouds and pine trees, painted in a vivid palette of iron-red, green, yellow and blue enamels with confident black linework.

The workmanship is markedly better than typical tourist wares, with expressive faces, patterned robes and rhythmic scrollwork. The enamels remain glossy and bright. A green cartouche mark appears on the base.
