Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French Neoclassical triple-back settee typically features a wooden frame crafted with three distinct backrest medallions, often depicting draped ribbons, urns, or botanical splats inspired by classical antiquity. These pieces usually showcase light painted finishes, fluted tapered legs, and integrated padded seating.

Settees from around 1900 were predominantly constructed with solid hardwood frames, such as beech or oak, finished with gesso and painted finishes. The upholstery traditionally utilised natural fibre webbing, hair stuffing, and woven textiles like silk, satin, or striped damask.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved detailing, mortise and tenon timber joinery, and natural patination or wear along high-contact areas of the painted frame.

A painted settee functions effectively in entrance halls, formal reception rooms, or positioned in front of a window bay. Pairing its sculpted timber frame with plain contemporary walls creates a balanced contrast between historical and modern elements.

Keep the settee away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, paint flaking, and textile fading. Dust the carved frame regularly with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners.
