Description

Just in from Iran, this beautiful salt-bag, knotted on the face with diagonal bands of small stylised symbols and madder-red plain-weave on the back.

Made by Khalaj tribes in the environs of Saveh, north-west Persia during the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the namakdan is complete with original colour-bound selvedges and long hanging cords emanating from each shoulder.

Size: 56cm x 43cm (1' 10" x 1' 5").
