Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, butlers trays were designed for domestic staff to transport tea, drinks, and meals throughout substantial residences. These items often featured gallery edges or raised handles to secure items during transport and were frequently crafted from rich woods like mahogany.

Victorian trays commonly combined solid or veneered woods, such as flame mahogany or walnut, with metal elements. Rims and handles were frequently cast in silver plate, Sheffield plate, or brass, featuring detailed scrollwork and embossed borders.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces exhibit natural wood shrinkage, subtle surface patina, and historic construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails or slotted iron screws. Silver-plated borders will often show delicate wear to high points where the base metal might show through.

An antique wooden tray can be placed on a sideboard or large ottoman to create a dedicated surface for glassware and decanters. It also functions effectively as a central display base on a coffee table to group books and decorative objects.

The timber surface should be dusted with a soft cloth and conditioned periodically with natural beeswax polish, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners. Silver borders ought to be cleaned gently with a specialist silver cloth to prevent chemical residue from touching or damaging the wood finish.
