Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A slant-front mahogany bureau is a traditional piece of writing furniture featuring a hinged angled lid that opens to reveal a fitted workspace, positioned above a chest of storage drawers.

Traditional bureaux are constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary timbers such as pine or oak, fitted with hand-cut dovetail joints, brass keyhole escutcheons, and turned wooden or cast metal handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, tool marks on the underside or rear panels, natural wear around the keyholes and drawer edges, and age-appropriate patination on the timber finish.

Position the bureau in a study, hallway, or living space, pairing its dark timber tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary table lamps, and minimalist desktop accessories to balance historic texture with modern clean lines.

Position the bureau away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer cracking, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply beeswax polish periodically following the grain of the wood.
