Japanese Very Fine Satsuma Shallow Dish – Meiji Period
For sale is a very fine Japanese Satsuma shallow dish from the Meiji period. The centre is decorated with two bijin watching a young boy play a drum. The child wears an elaborate kimono and a fox-head mask, while the two bijin are similarly dressed in richly detailed kimonos. All three figures sit within a border of flower heads.
The reverse bears a red seal mark, and the front includes an additional inscription. The quality of the decoration on this dish is exceptionally high—remarkably fine and intricate throughout.
