Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese earthenware pottery that originated in the Satsuma province during the late sixteenth century. Items produced during the Meiji period (18681912) are recognised for intricate overglaze enamelling, delicate gilding, and fine crackle glazes depicting figurative or floral scenes.

Satsuma ceramics feature a cream-coloured earthenware body covered in a clear, finely crackled glaze. Skilled artisans apply polychrome enamels and gold leaf by hand, followed by additional firings to set the detailed decorative elements.

Authentic Meiji Satsuma items display a distinctive yellowish-cream earthenware fabric with fine, uniform glaze crazing. The painting is precise, featuring complex figurative compositions or diaper patterns, and pieces frequently bear maker marks or the Shimazu family crest on the underside.

A Satsuma dish can be displayed on a plate stand atop a console table or sideboard, placed within an illuminated glass cabinet, or mounted onto a feature wall to showcase the gilded detailing and figurative design.

Preserve Satsuma earthenware by wiping gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth to clear dust. Avoid water immersion, chemical detergents, or abrasive clothes, as liquids can penetrate the crackled glaze and cause degradation to overglaze enamels and gilding.
