Gents silver 1940s Smiths wrist watch.

The watch has a signed 15-jewel hand-winding movement, calibre b454, which is working nicely.

The watch measures 30mm wide excluding the winding crown, and 30mm high excluding the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for Birmingham 1946, with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison, a Birmingham based case maker and supplier to various watch manufacturers.

The back of the watch has a beautiful long service inscription from Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd which marks 25 years’ service. The inscription has a date of 1942.

The four year discrepancy in dates is because the manufacture of English watches ceased during the second World War and was resumed after the War had ended.

The lens is in good condition (some natural light reflection showing in the photos).

The signed silvered dial is in its original finish with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

A later leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
