Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cocktail cabinets gained widespread popularity during the 1920s and 1930s as entertaining at home became fashionable. Cabinetmakers used figured veneers such as burr walnut to create striking, decorative pieces that concealed glassware and spirits behind closed doors.

Early to mid-twentieth-century cocktail cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid timber frames lined with highly decorative wood veneers, such as burr walnut, mahogany, or oak. Hardware typically consisted of solid brass or gilt-metal drop handles and hinges, while interior surfaces were often fitted with mirrors or glass shelving.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-finished details, including dovetail drawer joints, original brass backplates, and symmetrical bookmatched veneer patterns. Additional indicators include period-appropriate carved motifs, such as scallop shells or acanthus leaves on the apron and legs.

Place the cabinet as a standalone feature piece in a dining room, living area, or hallway to create an elegant entertaining area. Balance the warm tones of the timber by pairing the cabinet with neutral wall shades, brass lighting fixtures, and contemporary artwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the wood. Protect delicate veneers by keeping the cabinet away from direct heat sources, radiators, and direct sunlight.
