Fine Antique Japanese Satsuma Ovoid Vase – Signed Dozan – Meiji Era (Late 19th Century)

This exceptional antique Japanese Satsuma vase, crafted during the Meiji era (1868–1912), is a superb example of late-19th-century Satsuma artistry. Beautifully ovoid in form and signed “Dozan” in gilt on the base, it represents the work of a highly collectible and respected potter.

The vase is exquisitely decorated in rich enamels and gilt, featuring a continuous sankin-kotai procession scene—the traditional daimyo procession to Edo. The band of figures is painted with remarkable detail and precision, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship associated with fine Meiji-period Satsuma ware.

Above and below the main scene, intricately painted floral panels and geometric motifs add further elegance and balance to the design.
