Pinefinders has dated this piece to the 1920s.
They’re not actually mahogany, but a naturally darker wood, giving the piece a striking contrast.
The drawers have attractive carved detailing and a gentle curve to their fronts, while the cupboard also includes beautiful column features on either side of the doors.
It is currently in bare wood. Both drawers run smoothly, and the doors open along with the columns attached. When measuring the width, please allow a little extra beyond the stated measurement, as the sides protrude slightly — though the doors do open fully, which is useful.
Inside, there are three shelves with a central vertical partition. These can be removed or reconfigured if needed.
The darker colour of the carved panels is because this cupboard was originally intended to be painted, so the makers didn’t worry about matching the wood tones — a common practice. If you prefer a lighter, more uniform look, my carpenter can make new pine panels to replace the dark ones (they wouldn’t have carved detail, of course).
