A fine Victorian sterling silver pastry “trowel” server by the well-regarded Sheffield firm Martin, Hall & Co, fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1877.
Leaf-shaped blade bright-cut engraved with wheat shafts and foliate decoration, within beaded and engraved borders. The handle is cast and chased in the “Venetian” pattern with scroll ornament and vacant cartouche.
A very attractive and practical piece of late 19th-century flatware, suitable for serving pastries, tarts or cake, and an excellent addition to a collection of Victorian silver.
