Japanese Meiji period Silver Box. Hardwood lined with commemoration plaque ''To Mr Douglas M Young from The Yurakusha 1911''. The lift off lid has an inlaid shibuichi panel of a rural scene, a silver river with a golden bridge, a traditional house picked out in gold highlights, pine trees and a silver topped Mount Fuji. The panel is signed. The underside of the box is signed ''Made by Myamoto Shoko'' and Jungin Silver mark, established 1880 and is still in business today. This exquisite silver box is not just a treasured jewel but a tiny piece of Japanese history.

After publishing a work entitled ''Representative Japan'' they decided to publish ''The World of Today'' as a way to show knowledge regarding the world at large They also produced the book in which Douglas Young, of Kobe, is thanked for his for his ''very valuable assistance in compiling the present work''. The book is not included in the sale.
