Antique Waltham Bartlett Pocket Watch & Box

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Waltham Bartlett pocket watch & box.

The watch has a high grade stem-winding movement, PS Bartlett grade, which is working nicely. This is a high grade movement with screw-set jewels, Church 1892 patent regulator with gold star wheel and Breguet hairspring. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 23,034,342 which dates it back to 1919. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 14ct gold filled and it is in lovely condition.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The signed dial looks lovely to the naked eye… if viewed through a magnifying loupe, there are two short very faint hairlines. Blued steel hands.

The watch comes in an antique rosewood presentation box with mother of pearl detail. As the box is made of rosewood, we cannot export this item.

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
