Here we see a magnificent Teke Turkmen Ak Chuval made in the Merv Oasis during the mid 19th century.

The ak chuval was made with alternate, narrow, horizontal bands of plain-weave and extremely fine knotted pile.

The ivory panel at the base of this storage-bag is a mixture of ivory cotton and wool - knotted in the finest possible way suggesting this was a highly-prized chuval. This is Teke work at its finest.

Size: 1.30m x 0.76m (4' 3" x 2' 6").
