This can only be described as magnificent tribal woven art!

A fabulous horse decoration, the narrow band in soumak technique, woven circa 1880 by Shahsevan nomads in the environs of Mount Sabalan in the Moghan Plain, Azerbaijan.

For a horse decoration, a utilitarian item, the wok is phenomenal. This was undoubtedly made for a very importantant member of the tribe, possibly the Khan himself, in order to decorate his horse during omportant occasions. This trapping is rare. In my forty plus years of dealing and studying the Persian tribes, I have never seen such a wonderful horse trapping from the Shahsevan.

Imagine this hanging on your wall! Quite a statement. The braided tassel-cords in blues, yellow and red are superbly latticed. In near mint condition.

Size: 2.07m (6' 9") in length and 81cm (2' 8") top to bottom of the tassels.

The soumak band itself is 2.07m (6' 9") x 18cm (7").
