George Iii, Large Antique Provincial Silver Lidded “Peg” Tankard, Newcastle C.1785

Description

A very rare silver "peg" lidded tankard. Made in Newcastle around 1785 by the partnership of John Langlands and John Robertson. They worked together from 1778 till 1795. This oversized "peg" tankard was obviously made as a special order, these types were common in the 16th and 17th centuries. They were made so a large tankard could be shared around the table, each person drinking down to the next "peg". This tankard is in excellent condition with no repairs. The hallmarks are crisp and legible.

WEIGHT; 880 grams or 28 ozst approx.
