Portrait of Charles Humfrey Jnr (1807-1873)
It has been very difficult to determine whether the portrait is an original wash drawing or a print but after some consideration we have opted for a print and may have only been printed in small numbers for family members.
Printed portrait on card, set in an oval ebonised frame with an unpolished brass slip, inscribed on the back: “Charles Humfrey, only surviving son of Charles Humfrey of St Andrews Close Cambridge b. 1807 d. 1873”.
A further inscription on the back of the frame reads: “Charles Humfrey Junior 1807-1873'', with a later inscription written on a sticky label: “Charles Humfrey Probably brother of Sarah (neé Humfrey) wife of Rev. Prof. J. J. Cumming”.
Card: 7 x 5 5/8 in. (17.9 x 14.2 cm.)
Frame: 9 1/16 x 7 3/4 in. (23 x 19.6 cm.)
Provenance: Descendants of the family.
