Antique silver half hunter pocket watch and chain.

The watch has an English ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name ‘The County’, and it also has the original retailer’s name of Manoah Rhodes & Son Ltd, Bradford.

The company was founded in Bradford in 1836 by Manoah Rhodes. He was listed as a maker of gold and silver watches, jewellery and silver plate. The business grew into one of the largest jewellers in the north of England. Manoah Rhodes died in March 1881 and in 1888 the firm converted into a limited liability company known as Manoah Rhodes & Sons Ltd.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 51.5mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for London 1907. The case is in beautiful condition. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by dark blue enamel filled Roman numerals.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens in lovely condition.

The dial is also signed with the retailer’s name of Manoah Rhodes, there is a little rubbing to the type. Original pin-set blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed. The dial is in super condition.

The watch comes with a single chain, 29cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain is hallmarked Birmingham 1894. There is also a silver fob which is hallmarked for Birmingham 1860. Rose gold wash detail to the front, and free from any inscriptions to the reverse. The chain and fob weigh 41g.

The watch comes in a later presentation box.
