This is a very rare early 20th century view of the Ashar Creek in Basra Iraq by J Milner, not much is known about the artist although a painting Titled ''River Scene, Basra'' sold at Bonhams in Dec 2012 Travel and exploration sale Lot 120 for £1125 including premium. We have not come across much more of his work although this is one of 3 paintings of Iraq that we are listing today.
Ashar Creek is a waterway in Basra, Iraq, that flows into the Shatt al-Arab river and has historically been a significant hub for trade and transport. Old photographs and documents show it as a busy waterway with many boats, alongside buildings and palm trees lining its banks
The painting is housed in what appears to be its original wood frame.
Condition , the painting has
... craquelure and a small but very minor area of paint loss but this seem easily repairable (see images)
The painting could do with a clean.
We guarantee the authenticity of all the paintings we sell with a full money back if not as stated.
