Royal Worcester Fruit Plate by R. Sebright for Maple & Co., 1921 (Peaches & Cherries)

1900 - 1920
Description

A finely painted Royal Worcester cabinet plate dated 1921, featuring a still life of peaches, cherries and a small blue flower by Richard Sebright. The composition is a classic example of Sebright’s work, with soft shading, balanced colour and strong three-dimensional modelling. The outer border of cobalt and pink is finished with raised gilding.

The plate bears both the Royal Worcester and Maple & Co. marks, indicating a bespoke commission for the prestigious London retailer. A strong, decorative example of early 1920s Worcester fruit painting.

Historical Background
