Description

A hand-painted Royal Worcester cabinet plate dated 1921, decorated with a fruit study by Richard Sebright. Two apples and blackberries are painted with Sebright’s characteristic tonal depth and soft modelling, framed by a cobalt and pink border enriched with raised gilding. The plate carries both the Royal Worcester mark and the stamp for Maple & Co., the London luxury furnishing house known for commissioning higher-grade Worcester ware.

Despite a small rim chip, the painting remains in excellent order with strong colour and intact gilding. A desirable Worcester fruit study with reputable provenance.

Historical Background

Richard Sebright was one of Royal Worcester’s leading early-20th-century fruit painters, noted for his subtle shading and naturalistic rendering. Maple & Co., founded in 1841, supplied high-quality furnishings and frequently retailed specially commissioned Worcester porcelain for an elite clientele.
