Arts and Crafts metalwork is defined by hand-hammered surfaces, visible construction details, and decorative techniques such as repousse and chasing. The movement privileged hand craftsmanship and traditional artisan techniques as a response to industrial mass production.

These mirrors were constructed by beating flat sheet copper over moulds or from the reverse side to create relief designs. The formed copper sheet was then fitted over a protective timber backing board, encasing the central mirror glass.

Authentic pieces feature slight irregularities from hand-hammering, natural surface oxidisation, authentic folded or riveted copper edges, period glass plates, and backing timber showing age-appropriate wear.

Positioning a copper mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or side console introduces warm metallic tones and rich texture into modern neutral palettes while adding historical narrative.

Dust the frame regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive chemical polishes, as these can strip the historical patina, and prevent moisture from contacting the glass edges to preserve the original silvering.
