An Early Victorian Antique/old Pine Hall Dresser Base / Cupboard to Wax/paint

19th century
Description

This dresser base is in good condition. We have professionally stripped and restored it ready to paint or wax.

If you would like this waxed in a lovely antique brown bri wax please email or telephone for a quote.

The dresser base would look well in an old or modern property in any unfitted kitchen amongst similar antique pine furniture. It would look great in the corner of a living room with a flat screen TV on etc. It would also look great in a hallway.

The dresser base stands on square back legs and round turned front bun feet supporting the main section. There is one large door with one panel to the bottom and there is a moulding around the edge. There are fluted columns and carved corles to the sides. There is a key to lock the door. There are two small drawers over one larger drawer. The drawers have their original ceramic handles, dovetail joints and are pine lined. The top is in good condition with a slight bull nosed edge.

The height is 91cm, the width is 112cm and the depth is 62cm.

Delivery Terms

WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY TO ENGLAND, WALES, AND SCOTLAND (BELOW PERTH)

Shipping /delivery is equally as important to us as the item of furniture itself. It is simple; we deliver everything personally in England / Wales so this way we are 100% sure that the item / furniture reaches our customers safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Delivery is generally within 7-14 days of purchase. We guarantee delivery anywhere in England / Wales within 21 days of purchase.

Deliveries to Scotland as far north as Perth are guaranteed within 6 weeks of purchase. If delivery is required above Perth in Scotland please contact James on 07957 392 074 or

james@davidhuntantiques.com for a price.

Deliveries are either carried out by David or James as one member of the team is required to stay in the warehouse, therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway with the item of furniture. We have set delivery days and once the van is loaded (a day prior to delivery) David will call customers to arrange a two hour delivery time slot. Customers will also receive a text when delivery is 30 minutes away.

It is really helpful if customers can provide their ‘what3words’ location to make delivery as smooth

as possible, especially properties in rural locations.

Ireland Deliveries

We do use a very good courier company called DVM Service to deliver goods to Ireland. We ask the customer to pay this company direct for the delivery charge and we then liaise with DVM regarding collection of a customer’s item of furniture to be shipped to Ireland.

Europe & Rest of the World

We do not ship to Europe or the Rest of the World.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 19th-century Britain, pine dresser bases served as essential utilitarian furniture in country kitchens and sculleries. Designed for food preparation and storing cookware, their robust softwood construction made them practical everyday items in Victorian households.

Victorian country dressers were predominantly constructed from solid pine or deal softwood. Cabinetmakers used traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, panelled cupboard doors, and turned timber or white porcelain drawer knobs.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed timber, irregular dovetail joints on drawer sides, original iron lock mechanisms, and historic wear around handles and bases. The timber often shows a warm, mellow patina developed over decades of wax polishing.

A pine dresser base acts as a warm, grounding element in contemporary schemes. Combine it with modern ceramic vases, neutral wall paint, and minimalist artwork to create a balanced contrast between rustic texture and clean lines.

Keep pine furniture clean by wiping gently with a dry microfiber cloth. Periodically apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the wood grain to protect the timber and maintain its natural luster, keeping the item away from direct heat sources to prevent shrinkage.
