18th Century Andean Colonial Oil Painting – Madonna and Child
A South American colonial devotional painting in oil on canvas, dating to the 18th century and attributed to the Cuzco School or a related Andean workshop, likely Peru or Upper Peru (modern Bolivia). The work depicts the Virgin and Child in traditional stylised form, with floral and gold-painted detailing and a red patterned robe, set against a backdrop of drapery.
Painted on a coarse linen canvas, the work retains its original hand-carved stretcher. The surface shows craquelure and areas of wear consistent with age, particularly to the lower edge, but remains stable and legible.
Unrestored and offered as found, with characterful age throughout.
Dimensions: 32 x 40 cm
Medium: Oil on canvas
Condition: Unrestored. Craquelure and paint losses visible. Warping to stretcher.
Provenance: From a private collection
