Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rush-seated furniture originated as a practical solution in rural European homes, utilising locally harvested freshwater rushes woven across sturdy native hardwood frames. Oak stools of this style were widely produced from the seventeenth century through the early twentieth century due to their durability, comfort, and portable nature.

These stools typically feature solid oak frames joined with traditional mortise and tenon construction, supported by turned stretchers for structural rigidity. The seat consists of natural freshwater bulrush or cattail strands twisted tightly and woven into a four-triangle envelope pattern around the corner posts.

Authentic period pieces exhibit genuine wear on timber surfaces, particularly around the lower stretchers and feet where feet rested. Hand-spun rush weaving shows subtle variations in strand thickness and natural colour gradient, unlike uniform synthetic modern replacements.

Designers position compact rush stools beside armchairs, within fireplace alcoves, or at the foot of a sofa to add organic texture and historical contrast. The combination of dark timber and natural weaving complements both country house interiors and contemporary minimalist settings.

Dust the timber frame and rush seat regularly with a dry brush or microfibre cloth. Apply clear beeswax polish to the oak framework annually to preserve the wood finish, while keeping the rush seat away from excessive humidity or direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
