Lincoln Restorations has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
A lovely bookcase cabinet of unusual quality and condition.
This truly magnificent piece is a late Victorian period bookcase cabinet, dating from around C1880.
This extensive use of solid timber, especially for the substantial cornice, sides, and all door components, is a rare indicator of its original premium quality. The cabinet retains its original French polished finish, which has matured beautifully, showcasing a desirable warm, rich Walnut colour and a deep, reflective lustre.

The cabinet is designed in two sections: a glazed upper display bookcase and a solid base cupboard with a drawer offering masses of storage. The upper section is crowned by a deep, elegantly moulded solid Walnut cornice and features two glazed doors with its original hand floated glass (it does have a tiny 2" crack in the very edge near the top of the left hand door, we have left this as it is the original glass and not noticeable). The doors open to reveal a practical interior with three removable, infinitely adjustable shelves. The base features a single, full-width drawer above two solid panelled doors. The drawer front and sides are expertly joined with dovetailed construction and runs smoothly, a sign of quality and minimally worn runners indicating the cabinet has had light use.

Aesthetic detailing is provided by a pair of elegantly carved acanthus-leaf-style corbels flanking the base doors. The entire piece is complete with its original fittings: original brass plate dropper handles and brass key escutcheons. The cabinet is fully lockable via its working brass lever locks with the key being present. This completeness and remarkable solid construction make it a highly desirable and functional antique piece in home ready condition.

This cabinet has been sympathetically restored to preserve its original patina and charm, presenting a highly desirable and authentic antique piece.
Condition and Provenance As an antique, this cabinets shows signs of age and use. While in fantastic condition, expect minor marks consistent with historical pieces. This cabinet is of a great quality and is structurally sound, with no major damage that would detract from its beauty or functionality.
